
Melissa Crystal O'Neil was born on July 12, 1988[1].] She is a Canadian actor and singer. O'Neil is the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's 3rd season won it in 2005. In her role as an actress, she is famous for her performances as Two and Rebecca / Portia Lin in the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was greatly praised by judges, O'Neil experienced major setbacks in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, as she was voted in both the lowest three and the bottom two and bottom two, respectively. The judges were shocked and advised viewers to choose Melissa who was the most vocal contestant. From then on, O'Neil never fell back into the bottom three of the rankings after delivering consistently praised performances, with judge Zack Werner declaring that she was "a chance to win the whole contest". On September 7, 2005, O'Neil got into the final two stages of the contest, along with Rex Goudie, and after yet more stunning performances she was praised by judge Werner famously announced that the headlines in the following day's papers would read "The King, Kalan Porter is dead and long live the Queen." O'Neil defeated Goudie at the grand final results shows on September 14, 2005 , to win the title of Canada's third Idol.
